The market snapshot
Who could do your role, how many there are and where. Dated, with what we could not measure stated on the same page.
McMurry & Hughes is a recruiting company. We help employers fill roles that their usual search cannot fill, by looking in the markets outside it.
We work as an outside desk: we research and recruit in the cities, countries and language groups our clients do not usually reach, and we can keep working with you across the roles you need to fill again and again.
This is the whole service. There is nothing else behind it.
| 01 | You tell us the role | One role you are finding hard to fill. A named person replies, and we aim to do it within one working day, with one question: can you employ someone who is not local? If the answer is no, we tell you straight away that we cannot help with this role. |
| 02 | We research the market | We count the people who could do the job in markets outside the one you normally recruit from, where they can still work your hours. We also write down what we could not find out. |
| 03 | We send you a market snapshot | One dated page about one role: how many people could do it outside your search, where they are, and what we know and do not know. Free, before you commit, and yours whether or not we continue. Sometimes it shows your own market is big enough and you do not need us. If you want more depth before deciding, a full market map is priced per role. |
| 04 | We find and interview people | If you want to go ahead, we contact those people ourselves, in the language the role needs, and judge them against your standard. |
| 05 | You meet the strongest | You receive a written summary of each person from whoever interviewed them, not a forwarded CV, plus the list of who we ruled out and why. You interview and you decide. |
All five need to be true. The last one is essential.
If that is you today, write to us anyway. We will tell you what would need to change for us to be useful. Or work out what the open role is costing you first.
| 01 | You hire repeatedly | Not a single vacancy: the same or similar roles, over a year or more. |
| 02 | You have a clear standard | You would rather leave a role open than hire whoever is available. This often shows in how long the role has been open. |
| 03 | Your own market is small for the role | Location, language, sector or pay leaves only a few people near you who could do the job. |
| 04 | You have no large recruiting team | Or one recruiter covering many functions, with hiring run by founders and line managers. |
| 05 | You can employ someone who is not local | This one is essential. You need a company entity, an employer of record or a contractor arrangement already in place. We do not provide any of these, and we cannot work around them. |
Who could do your role, how many there are and where. Dated, with what we could not measure stated on the same page.
What we will do, what we will not do, and what we still do not know about your market.
Written by whoever did the interview. What we know, what we do not, and who we ruled out.
Many searches, including many run by agencies, stay inside the market the company already knows. You receive a shortlist, but not a view of what else was out there.
We research the market outside the one you already search, and we show you that market before you commit to anything.
We recruit for companies in Germany, the rest of Europe, the United States and Canada. The people we find are usually in Europe and able to work your hours.
| Not an employer | We do not employ anyone on your behalf. We are not an employer of record. You employ the person you hire. |
| Not payroll | We do not run payroll, and we do not invoice for anyone's time. |
| Not immigration | We do not provide or arrange visas, work permits or sponsorship. |
| Not software, for you | We use research tools and databases to do this work. We do not sell software to employers, and no tool decides who you meet. People do. |
| Not cheaper labour | We search a different market, not a discount one. Sometimes a hire costs less and sometimes it does not; that is never the reason to use us. |
| Not a job board | Nothing here is self-service. Every introduction goes through a person, with the candidate's agreement. |
